New Shops to look out for
|
| Area, Brighton Place |
Unique Brighton is always changing and right now it is going through a period of peak activity as some shops have sadly been swallowed up by the recession. However, the vacant shops are being quickly filled by new and exciting businesses and this is what keeps Unique Brighton so vibrant.
There are some interesting changes to look out for on the fashion scene. First up is new arrival Area in Brighton Place in the Lanes. This little treasure is somewhat hidden but if you know where to find Donatello's (and if you don't just ask any local passer-by) then you can't go wrong. It's a great shop with lots of space to properly try things on and see how they move. Designer ranges include Marc at Marc Jacobs. Juicy Couture, Galliano and the new Sienna Miller range – twenty8twelve. Over in the North Laine there has been some shifting of shops. Nola has moved from Church Street to Gardner Street and Flawless has expanded from its base in Kensington Gardens opening a new shop in Bond Street. Nola is a small designer boutique that doesn't seem to judge you on the size of your wallet or indeed the size of your bum. It is very welcoming and offers a range of designer pieces from See by Chloe, Inwear, Malene Birger, Joe's Jeans, American Vintage, Alex Monroe, CCDK, Berman Black, Filippa K, Edwin Jeans, The Jacksons, Macha jewellery, Ortigia perfumes and Designer of the Year 208 - Luella. The new Flawless store will focus on footwear while the original shop will continue to sell designer club wear and the brand's hallmark collection of printed t-shirts from designs by local artists. Friends for Leather has moved into a bigger shop next door where the extensive new Radley bag range can really be displayed to full advantage. There are some new multiples in the area as well. French designer Comptoir des Cottonier has replaced Dune in East Street and Gossypium has moved into the corner shop on North Street where the old Mango used to be. Gossypium is a chain that is very much of the moment offering ethical garments made from organic and Fairtrade cotton Modern in a very different way Cyberdog, newcomer to Sydney Street oozes neon punk with its range of bright Lycra and rock chick club wear.
