Magical Mystery Art Bus

Running alongside the festival is the Fringe Festival and a key sponsor of this year's event is Unique Brighton retailer artrepublic.

artrepublic is bringing the legendary British Pop Art pioneer, Sir Peter Blake to Brighton, together with his breathtaking ‘Art Bus’.

On Saturday 2nd May and the following Saturday 9th a unique double decker bus emblazoned with original work by Sir Peter Blake will be driven into Brighton.

Sir Peter Blake will be on the bus in person on the 9th May for an exclusive preview of his new book entitled ‘One Man Show’.

The ‘Art Bus’ will be parked at New Road, opposite the Theatre Royal in the heart of the city. It has been completely re-fitted inside to include a bar, luxurious seating, plasma screens and state of the art technology.

Upstairs is equally decadent with a balcony and fully working gallery which will include many of Sir Peter Blake’s printed works. Sir Peter designed the exterior of the bus in a rock n’ roll pop art style, ensuring that its appearance is colourful, eye-catching and of course groovy.

artrepublic has worked closely with Brighton Festival Fringe for many years to help promote and support artistic talent, and this year is no exception. The gallery is proudly sponsoring the Visual Arts section and arranging for Sir Peter Blake to attend the Festival.

The idea of the ‘Art Bus’ came about over dinner one night in Brighton between Sir Peter Blake, Lawrence Alkin CEO, artrepublic and Lance Trevallyan, Managing Director of CCA Galleries. It was Lance who took the project onboard and sponsored the creation of the bus turning it in to the spectacular, mobile educational facility it is today.

When the bus tours the UK, children from around the country will be given the opportunity to attend free workshops where they can ask questions and learn about printmaking, plus have a chance to have a go themselves. Because the Art Bus was recycled, it will be used to promote environmental issues, which will be a central theme of the workshops.

If you want to get on the bus you will need a bus pass. To register for your pass please email brighton@artrepublic.com with your preferred date.
