It's almost May and time to get festive

The Brighton Festival will begin in Sydney St in the North Laine with the annual Children's Parade. Mark your diary for Saturday 2 May a day not to be missed for anything.

This has become one of Brighton Festival's most enduring spectacles as it enters its 19th year in 2009.

The hallmark features of the event are costumes, colour and fiesta-style fanfare and they get better and better each year.

This year's theme is the elements - earth, air, fire and water. So expect a force of nature as over 4,000 participants from 70 schools and community groups parade through the city's streets to the pulsing beat of samba.

With over 10,000 onlookers and a beachfront musical finale, this symbol of Brighton's creative energy is the biggest and brightest community event of its type in the country.
